Library Services for Students Enrolled in Online/Distance Education Classes

The University Library offers a wide range of services to help you complete assignments and enrich your learning experiences.

How do I get books?
Cal State East Bay students can check out books from any CSU library and from many other libraries around the world. Look for books in the library's online catalog (if you don’t find the book that you are looking for right away, be sure to click "expand your search.")

After finding a book or books that you want, log in with your NetID to request the book(s). As part of the request, you can specify if you'd like to pick up books on the first floor of the CORE during our open hours, or have us send the books to your home address.

We also have millions of online articles and thousands of ebooks that you can read immediately when you find them in the catalog.

What about textbooks?
Because textbooks are used by many students in the same class, you may not be able to get them from the library or have them delivered to your house. However, the Library does have some e-textbooks available online, and many print textbooks available on Reserve.

Just search for your textbook in the online catalog. If we have an ebook, you can log in with your NetID to read it online. If we have a print copy, you can check it out for 2-4 hours in the CORE Library building. (Note that we have free book scanners available in the library if needed.) If you are unable to come to campus to check out a book on Reserve, you can also ask us to scan a chapter and send it to your email.

Can I use other CSU libraries if they are closer to me?
Yes! As a CSU student, you can walk into any library in the CSU system to use their resources. To check out books from another CSU library, you will have to register as a "walk in" patron using your NetID. You also can return books checked out from any library in the CSU to any other library in the CSU.

What online journals and databases are available?
163 full-text journals and databases can be found alphabetically or by subject on our A - Z Databases page.

How can I consult a librarian for help with my research assignments?
Visit the Ask Us page to get help from a librarian. You can chat with a librarian 24/7 or make an appointment for in depth consultation. The Library's website includes a list of librarians who serve as subject specialists and liaisons to academic departments/majors on campus.

Of course, if you are within driving distance of the campus, you are welcome to come to the Information Desk in person.
