CORE Library Noise Policy

To help everyone locate a study environment with a noise level that is most conducive to their needs, the CORE building has three noise zones: COLLABORATIVE, QUIET, and SILENT.

Collaborative Zones

In collaborative study areas, please be considerate of others and:

  • Use a conversational, indoor voice
  • Set your cell phone notifications to silent or vibrate
  • Use headphones when listening to audio and video

The following areas are Collaborative Zones:

  • First floor of the CORE (all)
  • Study rooms + instructional/event spaces (on all floors)
  • The Student Center for Academic Achievement (SCAA)

Quiet Zones

In quiet study zones, please be considerate of others and:

  • Limit conversations and group discussions
  • Set your cell phone notifications to silent or vibrate
  • Use headphones when listening to audio and video and set the volume to low

The following areas are Quiet Zones:

  • Second floor of CORE (all, except study rooms)
  • Third floor of CORE (all, except study rooms and instructional spaces)
  • Study cubicles/carrels (individual desks) on the third floor

Silent Zones

In silent zones, please be considerate of others and:

  • Remain silent (e.g. set your cell phone to silent, refrain from playing music or engaging in conversation, etc.)
  • Refrain from eating or drinking

The following areas are silent zones:

  • Meditation/Reflection Room (Room 328-329)
  • Silent Study Room (Room 336)

The Library seeks to create a study environment that is welcoming to all and we encourage everyone to be respectful at all times. For additional information see our Standards of Behavior policy.

To report a disturbance, please inform Library Staff at a Service Desk or text "Help Anywhere" at 510-880-1917.
