JOB DESCRIPTION: The Cal State East Bay Libraries are looking for community-centered and action-oriented students to serve as Library Student Ambassadors for the Academic Year 2023-2024. Library Student Ambassadors will receive ongoing, paid training on the use of library resources and services to support peer-to-peer engagement with fellow students. This year we are especially interested in students looking for leadership experience and event planning experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Library Student Ambassadors are a central component to the Libraries’ outreach and engagement goals. Ambassadors help facilitate student use of Library resources and services. They provide assistance at the Library’s Information Desk, represent the Library through outreach and educational activities, and assist with the development of Library marketing and learning materials.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting patrons with basic information and research needs
  • Performing searches for Library materials via the library catalog and databases
  • Describing Library services and resources in individual and group settings (i.e. class presentations, tours, at info desk)
  • Assisting with the development of marketing and learning materials 
  • Collaborating with diverse student communities 
  • Leading, facilitating and supporting Library programs and events 

These service-oriented positions offer students the opportunity to develop interpersonal, leadership, and library research skills through ongoing training and service opportunities to help the campus community with their information needs. 

QUALIFICATIONS: The most important qualifications are enthusiasm and a willingness to help your fellow students take advantage of the resources and services available to them in the Library! Below are additional minimum and preferred qualifications for these positions: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Desire to help others with their information needs
  • Willingness to educate peers about Library resources and services
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Capacity to work independently 
  • Ability to initiate projects and ideas, ask questions, recognize the big picture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with graphic design and interest in marketing/publicity
  • Previous employment in service-oriented positions
  • Previous use of library catalogs and databases 
  • Previous experience and knowledge in project management and team-building 
  • Previous experience with campus outreach and programming for students 
  • Strong interest in Social Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Bilingual/multilingual, preferably in English and Spanish, but not limited to, English and any of the following languages: Tagalog, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Cantonese, OR Mandarin.

HOURS: To be arranged in conjunction with supervisors. Flexible, ideally around 10-15 hours per week, but no more than 20 hours per week.

PAY: $16.50/hour
