JOB DESCRIPTION: The University Libraries hires current undergraduate students with strong interests in Equity, Access, and Affordability to be part of a student cohort dedicated to supporting and promoting free, affordable, and open resources at Cal State East Bay. Students work closely with the Equity and Open Access Librarian and the Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education Graduate Intern to support ongoing campus and state efforts on affordability and access issues of course materials (i.e. ASI Senate Resolution for the Encouragement of Affordable Learning Course MaterialsCA Assembly Bill No.798, CA Senate Bill No. 1359). Together with the rest of the OER / AL$ ambassador team, the student ambassadors will represent the University Libraries in the implementation of an outreach campaign for free, affordable, and other open educational resources directed towards the student/faculty population at Cal State East Bay.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Individual responsibilities may be determined based on strengths, previous work experience, and interests. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage in frequent written and verbal communication with student organizations, students, and/or faculty advisors;
  • Maintain records of communication and documentation; 
  • Gather and present data related to courses for adoption of OER materials;
  • Design, create, and disseminate marketing materials; 
  • Assist in updating and maintaining website content to ensure access to most recent information;
  • Design, create, collect, and analyze faculty and student surveys
  • Plan and execute events independently or in collaboration with other programs and departments;
  • Provide assistance at University Libraries service desks as scheduled;
  • Represent the University Library and provide help with information and research tools and strategies in-person, via phone and/or online chat.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be in good disciplinary standing with the university when appointed and for the duration of the employment period;
  • Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and for each semester while employed as an undergraduate student);
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) units each semester as an undergraduate student.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Bilingual/multilingual, preferably in English and Spanish, but not limited to, English and any of the following languages: Tagalog, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, OR Chinese to create relevant OER outreach and training materials for faculty/staff/students. 
  • Previous paid or unpaid office experience and/or experience directly serving the public (i.e. wait-staff, cashier, welcomer at a store)
  • Strong interest in Social Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our campus community
  • Ability to work collaboratively in both remote and in-person settings
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Experience working with personal computers, desktop computer and/or electronic tablets/devices
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision
  • Be committed to the work schedule established and maintain regular attendance
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to collaborate in projects and events

QUALIFICATIONS: Additional Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
  • Graphic design skills (Adobe Design Suite, such as InDesign or Photoshop)
  • Public speaking skills

HOURS: To be arranged in conjunction with supervisor. Flexible, ideally around 10-15 hours per week, but no more than 20 hours per week.

PAY: $15/hour
