JOB TITLE: Open Education in Higher Education Project (Internship)

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: The Cal State East Bay University Libraries seeks a graduate level student with strong interests around Equity, Access, and Affordability issues in Higher Education for the Spring 2025 with possibility of Summer 2025. This is a short term project to help develop an outreach campaign to help students locate information about library textbooks (online and physical) materials. Interns will work closely with the Equity and Open Access Librarian to develop strategies for outreach and engagement in open education. This work may include assisting in developing outreach and training materials, leading workshops, and/or developing assessment tools for initiatives or deliverables created during the internship. Individual responsibilities will be determined based on strengths, previous work experience, and interests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist with message and content development: Help draft action alerts, website copy, news releases, fundraising appeals and other creative materials 
  •  Online Outreach: Coordinate efforts such as search engine optimization, social media outreach (i.e. Instagram, YouTube)
  • Communications and Campaigns Research: Conduct target-and market-specific media  research as necessary to support campaign objectives
  • Assist other projects related to the Library’s Open Programs and Initiatives
  • Submit weekly progress reports to supervisor

Minimum QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be in good disciplinary standing with the university when appointed and for the duration of the employment period; 
  • Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and for each semester while employed)
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) units each semester

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Skills & Experience.

  • Previous experience with website development and/or content development
  • Previous experience with outreach campaigns
  • Strong interest in social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work collaboratively in both remote and in-person settings
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision
  • Be committed to the work schedule established and maintain regular attendance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn
  • Graphic design skills

HOURS: To be arranged in conjunction with supervisor Flexible, ideally around 8 hrs per week. Most work hours to be completed during the work week (Monday through Friday).

PAID/UNPAID: Paid, $17.50/hr
