Wild rose hips (i.e., the fruit) are said to contain more Vitamin C than oranges. The hips can be eaten and dried to be used for tea (Clarke, p. 81). A brew of rosehips was drunk to to relieve rheumatic pains, fevers, stomach aches, kidney problems, and throat pain and was externally used to bathe scabs and sores (Strike, p. 134-135).
Information on growing Nootka Rose can be found here on Calscape.
Nootka Rose is often used in bird and bee gardens and is very easy to care for--though shouldn't be planted near walkways because of its thorns/spines.
