Chalk Buckwheat seeds were eaten. A tea made from the roots was used to treat headaches and stomach problems. The stems and leaves could also be used in a decoction for colds and coughs (Strike, p. 59-60).
Chalk buckwheat is also known as seaside or coast buckwheat (California Native Plant Society).
Chalk buckwheat can be used in butterfly and bee gardens and provide an important source of food for many animals. For more information on growing, please see the entry on Buckwheat at Calscape.
