Sagebrush was used by many tribes in sweathouses to relieve ailments. Coastal sagebrush leaves were used as poultice to tooth for toothaches and also used externally for colds and rheumatic pains (Strike, p. 19-20).
Information on growing California Sagebrush can be found on Calscape here.
California Sagebrush is extremely drought tolerant and an important plant for the California Gnatcatcher, as well as quail and other birds and insects. It can be used to stabilize hillsides and is deer resistant.
