The University Archives is the main repository for preserving the history of Cal State East Bay, capturing decades of the university’s intellectual, cultural, social, and administrative evolution—a story that reflects the broader development of the East Bay region. We continue to grow our collections to tell a multi-faceted and rich story of life at CSUEB, and to highlight the individual contributions that have shaped our community, past and present, as we move into the 21st century.
Our team works closely with individual donors, as well as the university's faculty and staff, to identify materials that support our mission. We are here to assist with all aspects of donating materials to ensure they become a permanent part of our collections.
Donating to the University Archives
We welcome inquiries about donating materials to the University Archives. If you have materials you'd like to contribute, please reach out to the archivist or Dean of Libraries before sending anything to the archives.
All donations are reviewed and approved by the archivist. If your materials fall outside the scope of our collections, we can recommend a more appropriate archive for your donation.
The University Archives primarily acquires materials through donations or transfers. Please note that we generally do not accept materials on deposit or loan.
Transferring Materials to the University Archives
If you have material to transfer from your department on campus, please contact the archivist before sending any materials to the University Archives.
Processing and Preserving the Collections
University Archives staff, interns, and volunteers process the collections in the archives as resources become available. Processing consists of physically arranging the documents and preserving the documents in archival, acid-free containers. Access is provided to the collections via the finding aids and University Libraries’ online catalog.
Cost to Process a Collection
It is expensive to process collections. The University Archives staff would be happy to discuss the cost of processing your collection and the University Archives staff encourages you to consider a monetary donation that will allow for the processing of your collection.
