Research guide for Professor Engelman's PH 100 class.

Professional Organizations

Professional Associations can be good resources for learning more about specific professions, finding educational programs and licensing, and often finding scholarships and other funding. Start by looking for a national professional association by using a search engine to look for [YOUR DESIRED CAREER] & professional association. You may also be able to find international, regional, and local professional associations. Below are some examples (please note this is not an exhaustive list):

Continued Education & Funding

Continuing your education if often expensive. Fortunately, there are different scholarships and grants that can help assist you along the way. While you're a student at CSUEB, you can search for scholarships using Pioneer Scholarships and meet with someone in the financial aid office.

Below are some broad health science scholarships and search engines. Once you decide on a particular career path, contact the relevant professional associations and schools to see what targeted funding is available.

You can also think about and search for scholarships you may be eligible for based on your communities or demographics, e.g. gender, race / ethnicity, nationality, community groups, etc. Another possibility for those who are interested in working in underserved communities is to see if there are any student debt forgiveness programs and what the requirements are to meet their criteria and what percentage and kind of debt is forgiven.

When choosing a program, you'll want to make sure it is accredited. Search for the accrediting body and your desired field to find the correct agency. The accrediting agency should list which programs are accredited. Employers and certification often require that you attend accredited programs. For example, to find accredited nursing-related programs in California, visit the California Board of Registered Nurses.
