Description: Getting and using your free ORCID iD and ORCID record can help you save time and get credit for your work in funding, publishing, and research reporting workflows. Funding organizations, publishers, and research institutions are increasingly requiring or asking for ORCID iDs from researchers, so this workshop will help you make sure you are ahead of the game.

In this workshop, we will cover:

  • An overview of the benefits of ORCID for researchers
  • How ORCID can help you save time throughout the research landscape
  • Tips and tricks for keeping your ORCID record up-to-date

No prior experience with ORCID necessary. The session recording will be sent to all who register. See you there!

What is ORCID?

The ORCID iD is a unique, persistent identifier free of charge to researchers.

You can connect your ORCID iD with your professional information via your ORCID profile to include institutional affiliations, grants, publications, peer review, and more.

You can use your ORCID iD to share your information with other systems, ensuring you get recognition for all your contributions, saving you time and hassle, and reducing the risk of errors.

Benefits of using ORCID

An ORCID iD:

  • distinguishes you and ensures your research outputs and activities are correctly attributed to you
  • reliably and easily connects you with your contributions and affiliations
  • reduces form-filling (enter data once, re-use it often)
  • improves recognition and discoverability for you and your research outputs
  • is interoperable (works with many institutions, funders, and publishers)
  • is persistent (enduring)
  • is FREE

It is also often a requirement when you submit journal articles or grant applications. Currently there are over 11 million live ORCID iD's in existence, and this number is growing rapidly!
