Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides free tax preparation services for eligible low and moderate income families. We are part of a larger multi-county coalition called Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Our tax preparers are volunteers trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). VITA provides free electronic filing of taxes.
VITA helps families who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (a refundable federal tax credit for low- income working families), typically those households making less than $56,000 per year.

Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS) is a coalition of Bay Area organizations that provide free tax preparation to households earning less than $56,000 a year. United Way Bay Area partners with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), churches, nonprofits, AARP, and other organizations to scale the free tax preparation effort across the region.

The Oakland Public Library and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are partnering to offer free tax assistance to residents at select libraries during the 2020 tax season.
Trained volunteers will be available to answer questions and prepare personal tax returns between Feb 5, 2020 – April 15, 2020.
Be sure to bring copies of federal and state tax returns for last year, all materials pertaining to your 2019 income, a picture ID and your Social Security card. Come with your spouse if filing jointly.
