In this book talk, Dr. Wakimoto discusses how librarians, who are often the de facto graphic designers for their libraries, can use design concepts and best practices for more effective visual communication. Part art, part science, all about solving problems and communicating, she argues that graphic design is one of the most important aspects of librarianship. Drawing on examples from her recently published book, Easy Graphic Design for Librarians: From Color to Kerning, and common library graphic design projects, Dr. Wakimoto explains what works, what doesn’t, and simple ways to improve communication that anyone—not only librarians—can implement.
