Civil Disobedience

What is non-violent civil disobedience? These days, we hear a lot of rhetoric about "violent" or "non-violent" protest, the distinction being that "non-violent" protest doesn't include looting, interpersonal violence, or weapons. However, did you know that non-violent civil disobedience is actually more intentional than that?

Non-violent civil disobedience is a values-based philosophical approach to resisting injustice and repression that involves a group of people identifying an unjust law and then intentionally and methodically breaking it in full view of the public and law enforcement, with the understanding that they will risk imprisonment and possible injury or death as a result.
