Introduction to Information Literacy Skills: Sustainability Theme

This 1-unit, fully online, class uses a case study approach to understand environmental justice, sustainability, and global threats and opportunities due to climate change, while developing students’ academic research skills. One short paper, an online presentation, along with weekly discussion questions and knowledge check quizzes are required.

INFO 310-01 August 18 – December 12; 3 units
This course will explore sustainability, its impact in three main areas: the environment, social equity, and the economy and its key information sources. The focus is on environmental and climate justice. Students will develop expertise in primary and secondary research, designing a survey as class and writing a paper on a climate/environmental justice topic.

Required Preparation: Completion of lower division Areas D1-D3 is required.
Prerequisites: Requires completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3, and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better
Grading: A-F grading only.

Special Topics course focusing on Wikipedia

The course progresses this way: develop a focused research question; identify keywords; learn sophisticated searching strategies; evaluate books, articles, websites, and videos; and finally practice quoting, paraphrasing, and citing sources.

Smart Strategies to Research Careers

CSU Business Librarian, Sharon Radcliff, will reveal effective strategies for researching your career, including using government data sources for industry outlook and job growth information and library databases, websites, and social media to find company financials and career opportunities. An exploration of green and sustainable careers and health care jobs will be included.

COVID-19 Effects on the Economy, Businesses and Personal Finances

CSU Business Librarian, Sharon Radcliff, will explore various resources available from federal, state, local governments, business organizations, and nonprofits to understand both the effects of the current COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, industries, businesses and personal finances, and resources available to mitigate those effects. This will include a discussion of the stimulus package.

Resources available to students in need of support during the pandemic and information on how to volunteer and/or contribute to efforts being made to help out during the pandemic will also be covered.
