Faculty Lecture: The Problem of Idealization in Empathy and Ethics, Tuesday, April 9th

by Library News on 2024-03-20T11:25:55-07:00 | 0 Comments

Please plan to join us (in person or on Zoom) on the first Tuesday after Spring Break for a talk by last year's winner of the Outstanding Researcher Award at Cal State East Bay.

Title: The Problem of Idealization in Empathy and Ethics
Speaker: Susi Ferrarell, Philosophy
Date: Tuesday, April 9
Time: 12:15 - 1:15 (University Hour)
Location: CORE Mountain Lion Room (159)
Zoom: https://csueb.zoom.us/j/81539717935

Description: "In contrast to the technological understanding of empathy that dominates modern science and the helping professions, I argue for a return to our fundamental relation to others as the key to empathy. Instead of adopting professional ethics as a set of bureaucratic guidelines, reflection on our being with others will lead us to meaningful connection."

Light refreshments will be served.
