60 Years and Counting...

From its earliest days as the State College for Alameda County, and continuing through six decades of social and economic change, Cal-State East Bay has been pioneering the way in higher education.

Notably, CSUEB has provided access to educational opportunities for the most diverse student body in the mainland United States and has played a major role in the economic development of the entire East Bay region.

Join the University Libraries in celebrating the 60th anniversary of Cal State East Bay, March 2017 – September 2017.

Additional Exhibit Sources for Campus History

During the course of the past 10 years - ever since the University Libraries produced the CSUEB 50th Anniversary Exhibit - we have welcomed the chance to share campus history with the greater CSUEB community.

Exhibit Backstory

Members of the Library Exhibits Committee are excited to have this opportunity to help celebrate CSUEB's first 60 years.

As home to the University Archives, we are familiar with both the visual and narrative history of the institution - so when we were meeting to discuss possible topics for the upcoming Spring 2017 exhibit, the vote was unanimous for a 60th anniversary celebration.

To bring it all together, each of the committee members chose one or two decades to research, writing a brief piece highlighting those years, and identifying appropriate visuals from our holdings.

At that point our new graphics guru, Brooke Dykman, tackled the poster layout, integrating all these elements into the tableau currently on the library walls. If you are at all familiar with the early catalogs and publications of the University (then College), you'll see how she and Diana Wakimoto managed to mirror the look and feel of CSUEB's early days as Cal-State College at Hayward, and, earlier, as the State College for Alameda County.
