Library Student Employment Application
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: There are two types of student assistant positions in the Library: those in public service areas and those in non-public locations. Some positions require students to work at a public service desk and behind the scenes. We employ both Work Study and Regular student assistants, for a maximum of 20 hours a week. Most positions have a starting pay rate of $16.50 an hour. The Library is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. We particularly encourage applications from members of traditionally underrepresented groups under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and from students with disabilities.

HIRING OUTLOOK: The Library normally hires 10-15 new student assistants each Semester, depending on departmental need. The Library normally does not need to hire new students for the Summer Semesters.

ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT: You must be enrolled in classes and understand that you must carry at least 6 units per semester as an undergraduate student or 4 units as a graduate student and be making normal progress towards a degree to remain eligible for student assistant employment.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications are accepted in the Library Administration email throughout the year and kept active for one semester, then they are transferred to an inactive file. You must update your application each semester if you wish to remain in the active file. If you apply before completing registration, you may fill out an estimated schedule; however, changes to that schedule should be reported promptly because final selection of new student assistants is frequently based on his/her availability to work specific hours.

PLEASE NOTE HIRING PROCEDURE: Departments in the Library which have openings for student assistants will select applicants to be interviewed from those in the active pool. Selections are based on the specific needs of each department. Applicants selected will be notified by telephone to report to a specific supervisor for an interview. You will only be contacted by the library if any departments want to schedule an interview. You are strongly encouraged to resubmit an application with your updated school schedule each semester if you are not selected.

REQUEST FOR ACCOMMODATION: In compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Library will provide, upon request, reasonable accommodations specific to the application and interview process and to enable a qualified student with a disability to perform the essential functions of a job. Request for accommodations should be directed to the Dean of Libraries at (510) 885-3664.
