Services for Visitors
Educational Borrowers
The CSUEB Library’s Educational Borrowers Program embodies our commitment to better serve our partners in the local public education community. This program extends Library borrowing privileges to eligible members of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Eligible borrowers include :
- Teachers, librarians, or school administrators; or
- Currently registered students in community colleges or UC Campuses.
Simply bring a valid picture ID card and proof of enrollment/employment to the Circulation Desk to be processed for Library privileges. No payment is required.
Rules for educational borrowers:
- Your library card is non-transferable.
- A maximum of 10 items may be checked out at any one time.
- The loan period is 3 weeks with the option to renew materials up to 3 times if there are no recalls/holds pending. You may renew online, in-person or by phone (510 885-3612).
- There are no LINK+ and Interlibrary Loan privileges.
- Access to subscription online databases is available only in the Library.
All other library policies also apply to educational borrowers.
Community Borrowers
The CSUEB Library’s Community Borrowers Program extends privileges to residents of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties for annual fee of $50 . Simply bring a valid photo ID to the Circulation Desk to be processed for Library privileges. Payments can be made in cash, by check made out to the CSUEB Annual Library Fund or by money order.
Rules for community borrowers:
- Your library card is non-transferable.
- A maximum of 10 items may be checked out at any one time.
- The loan period is 3 weeks with the option to renew materials up to 3 times if there are no recalls/holds pending. You may renew online, in-person or by phone (510 885-3612).

Rules for Borrowers from other CSU campuses
Students, staff, faculty and alums from any CSU campus may check out CSUEB materials provided they have the following:
Students
- A valid ID from their home institution.
- Proof of current registration is verified by a campus issued sticker on the ID.
- For students from campuses not utilizing a sticker on the ID card, current verification of enrollment will be handled on a case by case basis. A course syllabus will not be accepted as a verification of current enrollment.
Staff
- A valid ID from their home institution.
- Proof of current employment is verified by a campus issued sticker on the ID.
- For staff from campuses not utilizing a sticker on the ID card, current verification of employment will be handled on a case by case basis.
Faculty and Emeritus Faculty
- A valid ID from their home institution.
- Proof of current employment is verified by a campus issued sticker on the ID.
- For faculty from campuses not utilizing a sticker on the ID card, current verification of employment will be handled on a case by case basis.
Alumni
- A valid ID from their home institution.
- Proof of current alumni status is verified by a campus issued ID and/or sticker on the ID.
- For alums from campuses not utilizing an alum ID and/or sticker on the ID card, current verification of eligibility will be handled on a case by case basis.
Final approval of CSUEB Library privileges is at the discretion of the CSUEB Library Access Services staff.
