Facts about the world’s languages: An encyclopedia of the world’s major languages, past and present go! Available in Print

Short articles give the history of a language and its development, written forms and pronunciation, morphology and syntax. Charts and examples are descriptive and useful. Each entry has a bibliography.

International Encyclopedia of Linguistics go! Available Online Available in Print

Contains over 900 signed entries that include a bibliography. Subjects reflect the history, theory and direction of the discipline, written in “popular” language rather than scholarly.  The online edition is available with logon, and we also own the print edition which is held in the Reference Stacks under REF P29 .I58 2003.

Contains some articles on modern languages under the “Language Articles” link. Also under that link are links to a variety of English-other language dictionaries.

Their grammars page provides links to useful guides to modern language grammar articles and web pages.
