This exhibit – produced by the CSUEB Office of Sustainability and the University Libraries – chronicles the events that led to a developing awareness of the environment within the U.S. in the latter half of the 20th century.
The aim of the exhibit is to show the growing importance of Earth Day as an annual observance in keeping environmental awareness front and center in the public consciousness.
Jillian Buckholz, the campus Director of the CSUEB Office of Sustainability, approached us here in the library last summer, wanting to develop a display that would celebrate the 26th Earth Day, April 22nd, 2016.
She has since worked with the Library Exhibits Committee to produce this new exhibit, A Brief History of Earth Day and Environmental Awareness. The idea is to present a brief narrative timeline of events that gave birth to the first Earth Day, and which have sustained this annual event, causing it to grow into an annual, worldwide phenomenon.
