About the Libraries

Library Noise Policy

To help guests find a study environment with a noise level that is most conducive to their needs, the Library has two noise zones: QUIET and COLLABORATIVE, based on location, which are described below:

Collaborative Zones

The following areas are collaborative study areas:

In collaborative study areas, please be considerate of others and:

  • Please use a conversational, indoor voice
  • Please refrain from yelling and shouting
  • Please set your cell phone notifications to vibrate
  • Please use headphones when listening to audio and video

Quiet Zones

All areas on the Upper Mall (UM) not specifically zoned as collaborative are quiet study areas including:

  • All Upper Mall (UM) study cubicles
  • The public computers in front of the Media Resources and Reserves Desk (MRR)
  • Other open seating areas on the Upper Mall (UM) not in Group Study Rooms (noise levels next to instruction room 3079 may be higher than normal when a class is in session)

In quiet study areas, please be considerate of others and:

  • Please limit conversations and group discussions so everyone can concentrate on their work
  • Please set your cell phone notifications to silent mode
  • Please use headphones for all media and set the volume to low

Overall

The library seeks to create a study environment that is welcoming to all and we encourage patrons to be respectful of everyone at all times. For additional information see our Standards of Behavior policy.

To report a disturbance, please inform any library employee, or call 510-885-3612.
